Happy Halloween!

Normally Halloween isn't that much of a big deal for me, but today it kinda had to be for my students. Originally, I had wanted to go all out and wear a funny costume for the day, but because I was home in bed all day yesterday that didn't work out. I stayed up late last night making cards for Halloween Memory/Concentration, but when I got to school the file wouldn't open due to the different versions of Microsoft Word. I made a Halloween word search as part of a back-up plan and decided in the 11th hour to redo the memory game from scratch. My grade 1 team-teacher, Suzuki-sensei was a great help. We printed, photocopied onto orange construction paper, and cut out 6 sets of 30 small, square picture cards JUST in time as the bell rang. He had a Halloween hat that he brought for me to wear, which worked out well. The students' reactions were priceless. As soon as they caught a glimpse of me in the hat it was total madness! I started the lesson by showing them different pictures and asking them what they were. For example, a bat, pumpkin, witch, ghost etc. etc. Next, I gave them the word search. I couldn't believe how excited they were to do it and when I told them the winner could wear my pumpkin hat for the rest of the class all hell broke loose! I took a picture with the winner and the students got into their groups to play memory. I looked on for the first class, and joined one of the groups in the second class. I had just as much fun as they did. Being with the students for those classes made me forget about my tummy aching, it was great! Too bad I couldn't wear my 80's disco outfit with the afro like I had planned.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN PICS HERE!
